Art Integrated Learning (AIL) is a teaching-learning model which is based on learning ‘through the arts’ and ‘with the arts’: it is a process where art becomes the medium of teaching-learning, a key to understanding concepts within any subject of the curriculum.
Art integrated learning is experiential in nature and makes all children to respond with their imagination and emotional strengths, thus the CBSE Board introduced this concept as it is an effective tool for both competencies-based learning and to assess the competency- based learning. The concept of AIL is implemented in schools by integrating two states in India. The state of Karnataka has been integrated with Ladakh.
An interaction session between the students of both the states was organised. The students were curious to know about the geographical, cultural, economic life, festivals & the cuisine of their respective regions. The students of Jammu Kashmir interacted with ease in Hindi and English. They were enthusiastic about sharing information regarding the languages spoken in their region and the festivals celebrated. They also were eager to know about the history of Karnataka and the occupation of people.
The students of both the states enthusiastically participated in a cultural programme which showcased the varied culture & tradition of respective states.
Overall, the programme was successful as it offered a complete exposure to the customs & traditions of both states which helped students to have a hands-on experience of learning in a new environment.
